He began skating in San Francisco, CA and rode as an amateur for Powell Peralta before leaving to turn pro for Santa Monica Airlines, a brand founded by Skip Engblom who helped organize the original Zephyr skate team. Thiebaud left SMA to start Real Skateboards with former Powell pro Tommy Guerero, a brand which is still thriving to this day. This Jim Thiebaud board is the second iteration of his
